Recommendations for drum students
There is a lot of choice out there, so I put this list of recommendations together to help students and parents save time searching for the right equipment. Fortunately, all of it is available on Amazon, which means it can usually be delivered to your door the next day.
Essential requirements from day 1
Drum Sticks
Vic Firth 5A
Practice Pad
(12" version)
A4 Folder for sheet music
Drum Kit - should be purchased within 6 months
Drum kit "silencer" set of practice pads for 20BD fusion drum kit​
(rubber pads that sit on the drums and cymbals which reduce the sound considerably,
but do NOT make them silent.
Whilst I do not endorse electric drum kits for learning and would always recommend a real kit with "silencer" pads over an electric drum kit, I do realise there are some situations when a real kit is just not possible. In that case, rather than nothing, I would suggest the following as a short to medium term solution...
