Don't just memorise the scales... understand them!

Do you find scales boring to practice and hard to memorise?

Not any more with these interactive play-along practice guides that are fun to use and offer a simple system to learn any scale in all 12 keys.

Do you find the sheer number of scales you have to practice overwhelming?
Not any more when you learn the number system and understand what connects them all.

Do you find it hard to motivate your students to practice their scales?
Not any more with this interactive play-along series that is engaging, fun to use and levels up as your students improve their skills.

The problem with the music grades syllabus (that most students learn by) is that it teaches F major at grade 1 and F# major at grade 4, about 3 years later! The consequence is that the scales are all learned separately, with great gaps in between. Not surprisingly, the student often does not understand how the scales are connected and can be overwhelmed by how many different scales there are to learn. Learning all 12 versions together, using the interval sequence and number system, helps you to understand how scales work and appreciate that the different keys are just 12 versions of the same thing.

Making these connections can be the real "Eureka" moments for music students!

The embedded audio files helps you to learn the “sound” of the scale, not just the theory and notation. Hearing the same scale in all 12 keys teaches you to recognise the sound of each scale.

Playing along with the embedded audio files helps you to hear if you play a wrong note, but also, and most importantly, will improve your time keeping. All too often students will speed up on bits of the scale they know and slow down on the bits they don’t know so well. It is important to practice scales at a constant pulse and playing along with the audio files will stop those bad habits.

Developed for all experience levels this series of scale practice guides explains how each scale works and teaches the interval sequence and number system which simplifies the process of learning scales in all 12 keys and shows how they all connect to each other.

Suitable for almost any instrument, every book contains Concert Pitch, Bb Pitch, Eb Pitch and Bass Clef notation for every scale and arpeggio exercise in all 12 keys.

Each book also includes embedded play-along audio files for every scale and arpeggio exercise in every key, instantly available at a touch of the screen, at different tempos that level up as you improve your skills. The interactivity of these digital books makes using them feel more like an app than a book, making them much more engaging for students.

These guides offer a structured practice routine, which allow you to dive right in, and the increasing tempos give a good measure of progress.

Clear, concise and excellent value for money

This series of books is invaluable for musicians ranging from hobbyists up to pros. The audio resource embedded within the book allow the reader to play at a tempo they feel confident with before beginning to speed up in their own time. The function of each scale is explained very clearly and the book itself is written in an easy to read and very clear style. As a musician moving from the classical world into jazz/rock playing I found these books to be first class and they will help my playing and improvising enormously.

Clear and comprehensive

This is a great help to a returning player like me. Text and explanations are clear and easy to use. I’m using it to help me learn to play treble clef for a brass band, so the concert/Bb options are a real gift. Thank you.

Amazing resource for teachers and students

This book is such a fantastic resource I wish I’d had it years ago when I was a student! Now as a music teacher I can’t wait to try it out on my students. I know they are going to love it. The interactive, touch screen audio buttons make it so quick and easy to jump right in and get practicing. He is obviously a good teacher because he explains the scales in a very clear and easy to understand way. Having all 12 keys together makes it so much easier to see how they all connect. Highly recommended!

At last a Scale Compendium

A vital ingredient for learning is a good teacher. Without a teacher this book (method) fills the gap. It is very informative and disciplined. Mendez said “practice scales and more and more scales”. This book is a must for the earnest student.

Bite sized scale lessons

A comprehensive set of bite sized scale lessons with clear explanations of the ‘how’ and ‘why’. All you need for each scale on a page with interactive sound examples to play along to at different speeds as you get better. A large download, but lovely to have everything accessible in one page.

Oh my gosh, a brilliant interactive go to, scale book

I have to say I’m not one for practicing my scales as I know I should. I know that’s all you ever here, practice your scales and you will get there. Well the getting there has just became easier. Scales in my opinion, are boring to be honest but for the first time in my life I cannot stop looking and working with this interactive scale book. It’s the first time I can see the why!!! in practising. This interactive book with imbedded musical examples as you go along. It makes me not want to stop playing. Even when I’m not playing saxophone I find myself delving into it while drinking several cups of tea. His book is a sheer pleasure to follow and play along with. He breaks the scales down into manageable sessions and you actually enjoy learning scales. I never thought I would say that.

The play along are a pleasure to practice along with while reading the book. For the first time I feel I am getting somewhere. It’s easy to follow and does not bog you down with theory jargon. It’s an easily laid out book with clear instructions. I can’t believe the price to be honest, his book has got to be a 10 out of 10 for first class content and ease of use. A students, go to book, regardless of skill level and one I’m sure will find its way into schools and higher education classes. My advice buy this book you won’t regret it for one moment.
